The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the site locations for four new temples — the San Jose California Temple, the La Paz Bolivia Temple, the Natal Brazil Temple and the Teresina Brazil Temple.
The locations were first published Monday, Aug. 28, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org. Exterior renderings and plans for groundbreakings for each new house of the Lord will be released at a later date.
San Jose California Temple
The San Jose California Temple was first listed four months ago in April 2023 general conference, along with two other temples with sites announced on the same day — in Natal and Teresina.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
The house of the Lord for metro San Jose, California, is planned as a single-story edifice of approximately 30,000 square feet, to sit on a 4.73-acre site at 771 W. Fremont Ave. in Sunnyvale, California, a Bay Area suburb west of San Jose. An adjacent distribution center is also planned for the site.
On April 2, President Russell M. Nelson announced 15 new temples locations, including two in California — San Jose and Bakersfield. The Bakersfield site location was announced last month, on July 25.
California is home to nearly 730,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 1,130 congregations and a total of 12 temples that are dedicated and operating, announced for dedication, under construction, scheduled to be built or in planning.
Other dedicated houses of the Lord in the state include the Los Angeles, Oakland, San Diego, Fresno, Redlands, Newport Beach and Sacramento temples; all are operating except the San Diego temple, which is closed for renovations. The Feather River California Temple is scheduled for dedication by Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on Oct. 8.
The Yorba Linda California Temple is under construction and will be soon joined by the Modesto California Temple, with its Oct. 7 groundbreaking announced last month. The two temples still in planning but now with designated site locations — San Jose and Bakersfield — round out the 12 houses of the Lord in the West Coast state.
La Paz Bolivia Temple
President Nelson announced a house of the Lord for La Paz, Bolivia, during October 2021 general conference, one of 13 locations identified at the time. La Paz is one of two capitals of Bolivia as the governmental headquarters of the executive, legislative and electoral branches; Sucre is the country’s constitutional capital.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
With plans calling for an edifice of approximately 18,850 square feet, the La Paz Bolivia Temple will be built on a 3.8-acre site located near Avenida Los Sauces and Calle 8 de Calacoto, La Paz.
It will be one of three houses of the Lord in Bolivia. The Cochabamba Bolivia Temple, the country’s only currently operating temple, was dedicated in April 2000. And a temple for Santa Cruz was announced in October 2020 general conference; its location was released last November.
More than 220,000 Latter-day Saints reside in the central South American nation, where the Church’s first missionaries first arrived in 1964.
Natal Brazil and Teresina Brazil temples
The Natal Brazil and Teresina Brazil temples were among the 15 new temples announced by President Nelson at the most recent general conference, in April.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
The house of the Lord in Natal — projected as a single-story building of approximately 19,800 square feet — is planned for a 5.53-acre site at Av. Senador Salgado Filho (BR-101) in the Nova Parnamirim neighborhood in the Natal suburb of Parnamirim, in Brazil’s easternmost coastal state of Rio Grande do Norte.
The Teresina temple — at approximately 25,400 square feet — will be built on a 3.60-acre site at Avenida Cajuína and Rua Pedro Conde, in the Noivos sector of Teresina in the northeastern state of Piauí.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Nearly 1.5 million Latter-day Saints in more than 2,100 congregations reside in Brazil, with missionary work and Church operations in the continent’s largest country dating back to 1928.
Brazil is home to 20 total houses of the Lord, including nine dedicated and operating temples, which are located in Belém, Campinas, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. The Brasília Brazil Temple is in its public open-house period and is scheduled to be dedicated on Sept. 17 by Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Two temples are under construction — in Belo Horizonte and Salvador. Also, six other temples — in Londrina, Maceió, Ribeirão Preto, Santos, São Paulo East and Vitória — join the Natal and Teresina temples in planning, design and development.
